There are close to two hundred Jewish overnight camping options that campers can pick from with six major camps located right in Philadelphia’s backyard, only 1 to 3 hours away: Camp Galil, Pinemere Camp, Golden Slipper Camp, Camp Ramah in the Poconos, URJ Camp Harlam, and Camp JRF. Each one offers campers a unique experience based on its environment, Jewish programming, and size. “Jewish camp” is anything but a monolithic term and lest one have the idea that Jewish camp connotes hours of studying the Torah or daily Hebrew lessons, this could not be further from the truth.
There’s swimming, sports, arts and crafts, singing, and campfires. Everything you’d expect from a fun and enriching summer experience. And if your child has specific interests, there are now even “speciality camps” located across the country that focus on everything from science and technology to the arts, all with a Jewish focus.
And kids don’t need to go to overnight camp to have an impactful and fun summer experience. In the Philadelphia area alone are 8 day camps with a variety of programs to suit children at almost every age, pre-K through teens.
For all of these summer experience, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia offers need-based scholarships that cover between 10% and 30% of the cost of camp, working to ensure that camp remains a viable option for families of all financial backgrounds. Ask many Jewish adults what was a defining part of their childhood and many of them will say “summer camp.” It’s the perfect place for a child to connect to their identity and culture, while having an amazing summer that they will want to tell all their friends about.

CAMP FACILITIES: Located on a beautiful 114 acre Farm, our programming occurs in our vegetable garden, on our horse trails, and in our wooden barn. Our Camp Site is located in a beautiful wooden canopy, near Little Buffalo State Park, with rustic cabins, a separate bath house, and family style dining hall.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We practice leadership at the farm. It looks like learning to care for our community spaces together. It looks like square dancing in the barn and growing closer through shared experiences. It looks like eating together as one big family for every meal, sharing stories from our days and a laugh over spilled milk. It looks like learning to give and receive open and honest feedback in more effective ways. They say that the best way to learn a language is to live immersed in a native culture. We're a culture of leaders. We hope you'll come learn with us, and teach us about what's inside of you.
WE LEARN THE LANGUAGE OF LEADERSHIP BY LIVING IMMERSED IN A CULTURE OF LEADERSHIP.
COMMUNITY
Being a leader means striving to understand, know, and love your community.
SELF
We can’t lead if we don’t know ourselves. Try new things, teach what you know, and listen to feedback.
COMMUNICATION
Communication is the bridge between ourselves and the community. It is where the magic happen.
Go camping, play Magic, learn the ukulele, climb a rock face, play soccer, learn to cook, have a barn dance, ride a horse, read a book, make up a new game, have a cardboard sword battle. These are just a few of the incredibly fun activities you will have to choose from at camp. The magic of Longacre happens as we bring learning leadership into all aspects of camp life and come together as a community. We believe in learning by living, and learning to better communicate how we feel about our experiences.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Leadership is the backbone to our program. To us, Leadership looks different for everyone. By building relationships, practicing open and honest communication, and empowered decision making. Our community values self-expression, compassion, cooperative leadership, and living joyfully.
Throughout every aspect of our program, campers and staff develop lifelong friends, indelible memories, and tangible skills. We grow leaders each summer who make lasting impacts on their communities, families, and the world.
Two aspects of our program that specifically are designed for intentional communication, empowered decision making, and relationship building include Crew and Group. Crew is the daily "chores" group that every camper participates in. This is anything from cooking breakfast, to cleaning the stalls and feeding the horses, to taking out the trash and recycling around camp. We do hard work, and then we get to play! Group is our evening program that is defined as "the part of Longacre that makes us unique". This is an intentionally facilitated communication workshop for all of our campers and staff. This is where we use communication tools and skills to better understand ourselves, others, and how we interact with the world.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Early bird discounts available.

We limit our enrollment to ensure that every camper is known - by name, by interests and by who they are as individuals. All of our programs combine skill development, challenges and fun, stressing participation and sportsmanship over winning while encouraging campers to get into the spirit of healthy competition.
We pride ourselves on hiring fantastic, talented staff. Our friendly counselors get the kind of training that helps them give their very best to your child. Many of our counselors are former campers who can't wait to share the Lake Owego experience from a first-hand perspective. We also personally recruit counselors from colleges and universities throughout the United States as well as some from Scotland, England and other countries.
Lake Owego Camp is owned by the Black family, who has been operating youth summer camps longer than almost anyone else. In 1931, Hughie and Selma Black founded Pine Forest Camp, which grew over the years to become a nationally recognized co-ed camp. Building on that success, Lake Owego for boys was opened in 1961, and our sister camp for girls, Camp Timber Tops, was opened in 1963.
Today, the third-generation and 4th generation leadership of Mickey and Barbara Black, and their children, Lee and Anna, carry on the family legacy, earning awards such as "Family Business of the Year" and serving as active leaders in the American Camping Association of America.
Directors John and Rachel Waszczak, Kyle Silver, Jeff Freedman and Shelly Silver have over 90 years of combined camp experience, and they work together a fantastic camp experience for each and every Lake Owego camper.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Campers going into 11th grade take part in our Counselor Assistant program, which includes opportunities to assist in teaching activities, assist in younger bunks, go on college tours to NY, MD, PA, MA, and a 2 week trip to Costa Rica. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Summit has a small amphitheatre adjacent to our lake, with a miraculous view of our beautiful setting where we enjoy swimming, canoeing, and riding our banana boats. Our camp resides on a gently rising hillside, thus providing us with the physical basis for our motto, "The Magic on the Hill."
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summit Camp is a co-ed sleepaway camp for ages 8-19 years with issues of attention: AD/HD, HFA/Asperger’s Disorder, and/or learning differences. Using the frame of a traditional sleepaway camp, we create platforms of success where our campers can experience outcomes such as improved self-esteem, lasting friendships, and increased independence. This is accomplished through a well-orchestrated and expertly staffed backdrop to a largely traditional camp experience- guided challenges, waterfront, adventure course, and more. It is our goal and desire to take our campers from observing peer interactions to engaging in them, to learn and celebrate their own strengths and successes, and to feel a sense of belonging and shared community with those around them while they are with us.
Our Teen Travel program extends the Summit community to provide a safe yet exciting adventure to one of our many attractive national and international destination tours offering 14 day and 19 day excursions. Summit Weekenders provide a youth-group style social retreat for adolescents to have an oasis of independence, enjoyment, and success during the school year months. Regardless of the specific program, Summit provides an expertly staffed, highly structured, and truly fun experience for our youth, and has been doing so since 1969. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Mission: “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.”
Our Vision is to “Transform one camper at a time through programs that build meaningful friendships, create opportunities for life long memories, and lead in the development of a stronger character.
YMCA Camp Soles is a traditional YMCA camp in the Laurel Highland Mountains of southwestern Pennsylvania. We offer high quality and affordable day, overnight, and family camp programs. Our campers have the opportunity to try their hand at a variety of activities such as swimming, Ga-Ga, arts and crafts, rock climbing, archery, zip lining, and much much more.
While camp activities are an important part of a summer camp, they are actually the tools we use to teach campers how to build meaningful friendships, create opportunities for life long memories, and lead in the development of a stronger character. Our focus is to instill the core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility among each and every camper.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Being a CIT at YMCA Camp Soles gives you a unique training opportunity that will serve you well should you ever desire to return as a camp counselor, work in day care or after-school programs, or become a coach or mentor for younger kids. Our CIT program is specifically designed for teens who are interested in working with kids. We teach critical counseling skills, behavior management, and instruction techniques.
Being a CIT is about learning practical skills that you will hone at camp. For example, you will work with our staff as assistant instructors in the various program areas across Camp Soles. You will also be assigned a cabin to help with everything from running activities to working with homesick campers. Camp is after all about learning through positive relationships and our counselors are role models for our CITs as much as they are for campers.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: At the Y, no child or family is turned away due to inability to pay. That holds true at YMCA camps as well. Realizing that different families have different abilities to pay, we created a three tier pricing program. Based on an honor system, your family chooses which tier you can afford. Tier placement does not change any aspect of the experience your child will receive. It is a way to ensure that every child can access the same opportunities.
Further financial assistance is available, if needed. Please contact the camp office for more information. (814-352-7217)

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Teen Treks gives teenagers the chance to discover the excitement and fun of bike touring with a bunch of like-minded people, seeing beautiful natural landscapes and world-class cities while gaining independence and travel skills.
Teenagers from all 50 states, plus Canada, Europe, and Asia join our trips – and everyone gets a lot of say in what the group does each day, from planning the details of the route to picking out what’s for dinner. If everyone wants to bike hard and get to the beach faster, you can do that. If you want to spend a little more time taking pictures at a breathtaking waterfall or a picturesque waterfront, you can do that.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Adventure, Travel, Wilderness/Nature, and more. Teen Bike Treks
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Teen Treks has been a leader in bike touring summer programs for 18 years. At Teen Treks we offer fun and not competitive biking experiences. Our Moderate rated trips are geared towards first time bicyclists, appropriate for most 14-18 year olds in average or better physical health. Our Easy treks are extremely easy in terms of daily mileage and terrain and will attract slower riders. For our Challenging treks you need to be in good shape and enjoy bicycling. We have had many first time riders do challenging treks and this is for those eager for a challenge.
Any teenager can enjoy one of our summer bike trips. We love a good challenge and we encourage teens to be ambitious, but we keep things fun, too – there’s always time to stop for ice cream, enjoy the scenery, or check out an awesome local restaurant or historical site.
