CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Teen Treks has been a leader in bike touring summer programs for 18 years. At Teen Treks we offer fun and not competitive biking experiences. Our Moderate rated trips are geared towards first time bicyclists, appropriate for most 14-18 year olds in average or better physical health. Our Easy treks are extremely easy in terms of daily mileage and terrain and will attract slower riders. For our Challenging treks you need to be in good shape and enjoy bicycling. We have had many first time riders do challenging treks and this is for those eager for a challenge.

Any teenager can enjoy one of our summer bike trips. We love a good challenge and we encourage teens to be ambitious, but we keep things fun, too – there’s always time to stop for ice cream, enjoy the scenery, or check out an awesome local restaurant or historical site.

CAMP FACILITIES: Summit has approx. 30 traditional wooden cabins with electric and private facilities in each cabin. Our main buildings include our newly refinished dining hall, air-conditioned recreational hall, our medical facility, and a newly built outdoor pavilion. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summit Camp is a co-ed sleepaway camp for ages 8-19 years with issues of attention: AD/HD, HFA/Asperger’s Disorder, and/or learning differences. Using the frame of a traditional sleepaway camp, we create platforms of success where our campers can experience outcomes such as improved self-esteem, lasting friendships, and increased independence. This is accomplished through a well-orchestrated and expertly staffed backdrop to a largely traditional camp experience- guided challenges, waterfront, adventure course, and more. Camp SAY was established with one goal in mind – to provide children who stutter with a highly immersive and accepting summer camp experience that builds self-confidence and helps children develop the vital communication skills they need to fully express themselves without fear, bullying or ridicule.

Complementing our wide range of exciting traditional camp activities, Camp SAY provides each child with unique experiences that challenge them in a safe way, creating a strong sense of achievement and helping them confidently navigate the unique issues that children who stutter face in the everyday world.

STAFF
The staff is dedicated to creating a safe and accepting environment where every child can find their beautiful and unique voice. Approximately 80% of children return to camp. Parents and campers tell us it’s our staff and unique approach that consistently exceed expectations, making Camp SAY such a rewarding and transformative experience.

We provide an excellent Staff-to-Camper Ratio: With Camp’s leadership team, camp counselors, specialized activities staff and more, our staff-to-camper ratio is 1 staff member for every 2-3 campers. In addition, each bunk is staffed at night with at least 2 counselors for an average of 6-10 campers.

Counselors complete a comprehensive training program to support the social, emotional and physical needs of all our campers. Traveling to Camp SAY: Campers come from all around the country and abroad. We work closely with families to make each child’s trip to Camp SAY as safe and enjoyable as possible. We schedule a chaperoned flight from the southeast to New York City. Children taking individual flights are welcomed at the gate by camp staff. Upon arrival at the airport, camp staff helps navigate baggage claim, arrange check-in for return flights, and board campers on the bus for a fun trip to Camp SAY.

Our Personalized Approach: In order to fully personalize your child’s camp experience, our team obtains detailed preferences in advance of camp from you and your child – from their activities to seemingly small yet important details. CAMP FACILITIES: Surprise Lake Camp is blessed with incredible natural beauty. Our camp sits on 500 beautiful wooded acres surrounded by an enormous expanse of undeveloped state parkland. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Surprise Lake Camp has a rich history. It was founded in 1902 by the Educational Alliance to provide a summer vacation for Jewish boys from Main Building - 1920 the tenements of Manhattan's Lower East Side. In its first season, it had six tents for 25 campers and five counselors. One of the first campers was Eddie Cantor, who, upon achieving success as an entertainer, became one of the camp's most ardent supporters. Since then Surprise Lake Camp has served thousands of young people, many of whom have achieved prominence, among them, entertainer Neil Diamond, talk show host Larry King, actor Jerry Stiller, and former New York Attorney General Robert Abrams.

In 1911, the 92nd Street Y became partners in running the camp, and the camp office was located at the Y for many years. In 1917, when the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies was created, Surprise Lake Camp was one of the initial member agencies. The camp then became incorporated as a New York not-for-profit in 1920, eventually leading to complete independence from its founding agencies. Over the years, Surprise Lake Camp has been substantially rebuilt three times. In addition, its clientele and program have evolved as the Jewish community has changed. Originally established to provide summer vacations in the country for poor boys from the lower East Side, the camp has also gone through periods when it was dedicated to feeding undernourished boys, operated as a year-round camp which included formal education during the winter, committed to the personal development of children using a social group work model, and run as a general co-ed summer camp with special emphasis on scholarships.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer Program participants can be day students or live on campus and enjoy a full schedule that provides recreational activities on weekends and afternoons. Since 1990, the Summer Program has successfully combined not only academic enrichment and remediation, but also new experiences, opportunities and fun.

Admissions: The Gow School has a rolling admissions policy for its Summer Program. Personal interviews and tours of the campus are given throughout the year. Academics: The Gow School Summer Academic Program is a challenging and stimulating learning environment which provides students the opportunity to improve their academic skills. With an average class size of five students and individual attention from teachers, students achieve success in areas they never thought possible. Afternoon Activities: Each afternoon, Summer Program students participate in three Activity Instructional Clinics (AICs). AICs help students learn new skills and enjoy a full summer experience. During activity sessions, students are encouraged to participate to their level of comfort. Character building and teamwork abilities are emphasized. The AICs include traditional athletic activities such as basketball and capture the flag, along with non-traditional sports such as crab soccer and tennis softball. Other activities may include arts & crafts, hiking and biking. Specialized sessions such as archery and the low ropes courses are coached by trained supervisors.

Weekend Trips: Weekend trips are one of the many highlights of The Gow School Summer Program. Three overnight excursions are taken during the summer. CAMP FACILITIES: At 200 feet, the Oliver Hazard Perry is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years. It is the largest civilian sail training vessel in America. She has berths for 49 people overnight, and with 17 crew, a low camper to crew ratio creates a safe and fun environment. The ship is equipped with a steel hull, 3 masts, with square sails on all three masts, 20 sails totaling 14,000 square feet, and 7 miles of rope and wire. The engines run on a bio-diesel blend, and the ship is equipped with a modern galley (on-board kitchen), central air, an on-deck science lab, a library and wheel-chair accessibility above and below decks.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: With 17 professional crew and a capacity for 30-34 campers, our program promotes a dynamic and safe learning environment with a 2:1 ratio of campers to instructors. Campers will feel the thrill of steering a 500-ton ship, and learn to work the yards and sails while exploring the beautiful coasts of New England. They will learn safety at sea and perform important safety drills while acquiring skills in navigation, seamanship, sail handling, knots, and the language of the boat. Campers will explore the underwater world through snorkeling. They will understand wind, waves, tides and the ecology of sandy and rocky seashores. Sunsets, sunrises and the night sky will serve as the backdrop for this incredible experience, in addition to marine phosphorescence, dolphins and whales. Teamwork is an integral part of success onboard the boat, and in addition to learning about themselves, and achieving things they never imagined, they will make friendships to last a lifetime.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: In addition to witnessing the natural magic of the ocean and its inhabitants, each student crew will make friendships to last a lifetime. Campers will take responsibility for themselves and their fellow shipmates, learning to work as a team with others as they hoist and brace the yards on the ship's 130-foot tall rig and apply acquired navigational skills to guide the ship's course on a voyage of discovery.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The Perry will sail year-round, offering experiences for high school and college age students, as well as adult sail-training and team building. The ship will spend the Summers in New England and the Winters in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Sailing School Vessel Oliver Hazard Perry is Rhode Island’s official sailing education vessel and flagship non-profit maritime campus, offering experience-based, core learning opportunities to a diverse student population, including those with disabilities, aboard a magnificent 196-foot, three-masted, square-rigged tall ship.

We achieve our mission in collaboration with Rhode Island educational institutions and the marine industry with a sustainable plan that promotes our sea-faring heritage with programs that serve as symbols for our stewardship of the Ocean State’s maritime environment.

CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:
Camp price for six days/nights is $1,600 (10% discount early bird special for the first 10 campers to sign up!), which includes all meals and seamanship/sailing instruction.

CAMP FACILITIES: We occupy 2 floors of dorm rooms, one floor for male participants and staff and one floor for female participants and staff. All rooms are air conditioned, shared bathroom space on the floors, shared kitchen space on each floor stocked with kosher healthy snacks and beverages at all times.

State of the art gym available at designated times within the building. Elevator access. 24/7 on-site security.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Passport NYC is the most unique and extraordinary residential, Jewish, specialty summer camp program available to teens entering 9th through 12th grades in the heart of NYC.

Follow your passion in one of five specialty camp programs; Fashion, Film, Culinary Arts, the Music Industry or Musical Theater.

Participate in pre-professional classes in the morning with high level instructors and visit with industry execs in the afternoon to gain a 360 degree experience in your industry of interest. Earn up to 30 hours of community service credit while participating in our Service Learning programs.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Students will take four classes a day, five days a week. Additional classes include video talks, lectures, nutrition, and music appreciation. Students, besides being taught and mentored by company members on a daily basis, will have the opportunity to perform for a live audience at the end of this intensive. Along with the many classes offered, the students will take field trips throughout the intensive to other art institutions in the city of Rochester.
